How to avoid the guilt and shame of binge eating

If there was one thing that goes together like peanut butter and jelly, it’s binge eating and guilt. The two come as a pair as everyone who has ever overeating will know only too well. But there is a way to avoid guilt.

Guilt is the natural partner we see whenever we do something we know we shouldn’t.

It is part of our social conditioning and part of our self-knowledge that tells us eating that extra bowl of fries or ice cream is not good for us and therefore wrong. As the urge to binge eat can be overwhelming at times, guilt follows.

We can change that.

Guilt or support

If you had a child that had eating problems and lapsed, which approach do you think would be more effective? Shouting at them and telling them they failed and have to try harder? Telling them they are a failure and should be ashamed of themselves?

Or.

Give them a hug, tell them it’s okay, that everyone does it occasionally and that while we need to better next time, we need to explore and find out why it happened this time.

The first approach is the 19th century approach. It didn’t work then and it certainly won’t work now. The second approach is the way to go.

Accept what happened. Accept the lapse. Accept that we need to do better next time while analyzing what happened this time.

In technology this is called ‘root cause analysis’. We look at what happened. We look at what caused it. We assess what actually took place from every angle and we put measures in place to minimize the risks for next time.

My coaching teaches you to do the same with binge eating.

I won’t call you weak. I will never say you failed. I will never, ever make you feel ashamed.

We will discuss lapses. We will talk about what happened and we will talk about what we can do to help you do better. This coaching is designed to help you succeed and not punish for failures. I will also do everything I can to help.

Support is how we overcome binge eating. Supporting ourselves. Supporting each other. Getting support from friends and family. No man is an island and nobody should be afraid to ask for support. You are worth it.

This coaching is designed to give you all the support you need. Join me today on a voyage of self-improvement and say goodbye to binge eating and to guilt!
