The three steps to weight control success
I think it’s time to reiterate the three steps to success in this program.
- Create and follow your own food plan.
- Create and follow a personal exercise plan.
- Understand that following steps 1 and 2 will help you lose weight.
Create and follow your own food plan
Creating your own food plan was one of the early steps we took when you first joined our program. It’s a personal plan that takes the foods you like and the needs of your body to create a manageable and (mostly) enjoyable meal plan for the long term.
The food plan also includes those food rules we spent so much time discussing. You already know why those food rules are so important so I won’t labor the point here. But I will reinforce the importance of both the food plan and those food rules.
Create and follow a personal exercise plan
We are all different and are capable of different things. Customizing an exercise plan is also something we do early on. Creating a plan in conjunction with your physician is as important as the food plan. To lose weight you need to burn calories. To burn calories you need to increase rate at which you burn them. Hence exercise.
Plus, exercise makes your body stronger, helps it cope with illness better and has the sought-after endorphin effect once you can exercise at an appropriate level. Creating an exercise plan and sticking to it is a core tenet of weight loss and cannot be overstated.
Understand that following steps 1 and 2 will help you lose weight
We are all impatient people. We all want instant gratification and instant results. The food industry is built on that and we must control it. Sticking to your food plan and exercise plan WILL mean you lose weight. It will be gradual and it will often seem like nothing is happening. But it is.
Losing weight slowly and gradually building up the exercise is the healthiest way to make big changes to your body and your lifestyle. It is more sustainable than quickfire solutions, it works better and gives your body more time to adapt to those changes.
That slow adaptation is the key to success. It’s less of a shock to the system. Less of a wrench to your current lifestyle and something you are much more likely to be able to sustain.
Sustainability is the key to this program. You’re in it for the long haul. Even when you real your goal, you need to sustain your efforts to maintain your goal weight. Otherwise you’ll be back here again and nobody wants that!
