Never is always better than sometimes when it comes to cravings
This course talks a lot about simple food rules and there is a good reason for that. Because they work. Even though we keep on about these rules, I still hear people say ‘I don’t eat junk during the week but sometimes at weekends’ or ‘I sometimes eat potato chips but mostly replace it with chopped vegetables’. You see the error in these statements?
They leave your inner craving room to maneuver.
Replace them with ‘I never eat junk food during the week’ or ‘I never eat potato chips but I do eat chopped vegetables’. You see the difference? Never means never. Not possibly, not I’ll try, not occasionally and not sometimes. Never means never and using it in your food rules makes a world of difference.
You can reinforce sometimes and never by repeating some or any of the below.
- ‘My doctor has never said I need more candy, junk or alcohol in my life. The doctor has never said you’re going to become ill unless you eat more junk or put on more weight.’
- ‘Being able to say I have never given in to my inner cravings is A LOT more satisfying than saying I sometimes overcome my cravings’.
- ‘A cardboard packet or plastic wrapper never looks better than the fresh fruit and vegetable section in the grocery store’.
- ‘Knowing you will never put weight on again is far better than saying I sometimes won’t put weight back on’.
You get the idea. Never is always better than sometimes when it comes to dealing with food cravings!
