Embrace your evolution
Whatever your view of the theory of evolution, we all evolve as people. We evolve from childhood into teenagers, into young adults into mature adults. It’s a continual process of evolving, learning and developing. We can use that process to master our cravings too.
Here’s how.
See further than right in front of you – One thing that marks us separate from the rest of the animal kingdom is our ability to think about the future and plan for it. Use that. The next time you think ‘I really want an extra helping of dessert’, rather than thinking about the here and now, think about tomorrow or the next day when you’re feeling remorse about that decision.
Is that extra helping really worth it?
Understand what’s going on with urges – Our brains evolved to tell us when we are hungry or thirsty in order to ensure it’s survival. Unfortunately, the brain still hasn’t learned that we live in a world of plenty where true, genuine hunger does not exist. Not in the U.S. anyway.
Understanding this should help you realize that hunger you’re feeling is a throwback to earlier times and not something you have to listen to now.
Appreciate your true worth – You’re a human being with feelings, emotions and value. Cravings don’t care about any of that. They just want instant gratification and don’t care about the true cost of that gratification. You’re worth so much more than that. You’re worth the investment in time and effort. You’re worth getting to know and taking seriously. You are worth the effort required to gain self mastery.
Your cravings may not realize that but I do. You need to realise that too.
You have evolved this far so keep with the program and complete this journey. We’ll do it together and evolve past these cravings. It will be entirely up to you what comes next!
