Five mantras that motivate

We try to keep rules to a minimum here at Nobody likes them much and the world has too many of them already. However, one rule I do insist on is using mantras to help motivate you throughout this course.

When you’re feeling great and have successfully said no to a craving, the world is awesome. When you’re coming to terms with difficulty or have just given in to a craving, you need a little extra help. That’s where mantras come in.

A mantra can help you through those tough times. They can help you realize why you’re doing what you’re doing and they can help keep you on your path to self-improvement.

Here are five mantras I use when I need them.

You didn’t come this far to only come this far

Or ‘If you’re going through hell, keep walking’. Either way, don’t give up. If you’re this far into the course, you are doing better than most people already. We are human and we fail sometimes. That isn’t an excuse to give up but to get back on the horse.

You said tomorrow yesterday

This is a common human trait. Put something off until tomorrow. It means you don’t have to commit now without having to admit to yourself that you will never do it. If something is worth doing, it is worth doing today. WE only have now!

Don’t wish for it, work for it

I use this one a lot when a craving hits. There is no point wishing the craving would go away, you have to make it go away. That means sticking to your food rules and using willpower to say no. Discipline Trumps Motivation.

The best project you’ll ever work on is you

Never a truer word said.

Big journeys begin with the small steps

When things are getting tough and you don’t think you can beat your cravings, think of this and keep going. Every time you make a positive decision about food or any aspect of your life, it is one small step in the right direction. Remember, how do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.

This course is a process, the same as life. There will be good days and there will be challenging days. Using mantras helps you cope with those challenging days and remind yourself why you’re on this journey in the first place.

Use them or make up your own, but use them. They really do help!
