The ultimate reason to stop overeating
That inner voice that tells you that an extra portion of dessert or going extra large instead of a standard burger is okay and no harm will come to you is lying. It may ease your conscience with ‘just this once won’t matter’ or ‘you did well yesterday and now it’s time to reward yourself today’ but they are all lies. They are lies that could kill you.
You should reward yourself for overcoming your cravings. You absolutely should, but that reward should not undo all your hard work so far. Instead, make your reward something more meaningful, whose effects will be felt long after you have forgotten about that burger. A spa day, a pedicure, a new pair of sneakers. Rewards that help you on your path to self-mastery and eventually, true happiness.
What is the ultimate reason to stop overeating? Because you’ll die early if you don’t.
It might not be good to hear but my commitment to you throughout this course is to give you the truth. The simple truth is that overeating, being overweight and unhealthy causes more deaths in the United States than any other cause.
Overeating can cause or exacerbate:
- High LDL cholesterol.
- Type 2 diabetes
- Strokes and heart attacks.
- Gallbladder diseases.
- High blood pressure.
- Some forms of cancer.
- Osteoarthritis.
The list goes on. The CDC has a lot of data on obesity and its effects on the body and society at large. It makes sobering reading but you need to know the facts because your inner voice doesn’t want you to know those facts.
It will tell you everything will be okay. It will tell you if you have a heart attack it will be quick and mostly painless. That diabetes can be managed and that cancer can be cured. All those things may be true but not in every situation.
The great news is that every pound you lose, every bad meal choice you turn around, every extra effort you make during exercise helps lower the chances of any of those things happening. If that isn’t reason enough to keep going, I don’t know what is!
